In case it would be simpler to implement - Now that we have button groups, if it were possible to set up visibility at that level I think that would address my request for expression-based visibility in the linked post.
Even if both stay as "Compare Field" dropdowns, the group can handle the "security" layer via Profile view fields, while the record/dynamic form changes drive the button visibility, as it is now.
